Charities of the year 2015

Posted on Mar 12, 2015

Budgens of Aylsham will be raising money for the Squirrels short break respite unit in the town.  Squirrels provide essential care for children aged between five and 18 years, it is a much-loved residential unit which acts as a home from home for scores of children with complex health needs and disabilities.

Squirrels, together with its sister unit Little Acorns, at Gorleston, provide accommodation for between two and five nights each month. During the week, those staying at the centre will continue to go to school, while at the weekends they can enjoy a variety of activities, such as art and craft sessions and baking, while also making the most of the unit’s sensory room and soft play area.

The staff also arrange regular excursions for the children and young people, who come to Squirrels from across Norfolk. This can include bowling, trips to the cinema and visits to the Broads or coast.

Carrier bag sales this year will be donated to the North Norfolk branch of the MS Society.
